AI Features

Danny uses AI throughout the app to reduce the overhead of staying organized. Here's what each feature does and how to get the most out of it.

Classification

When you create a task, Danny reads the title and description, then suggests:

  • Project — which project this task belongs to, based on your existing projects and the task content.
  • Labels — cross-cutting tags like "errand," "phone-call," or "research."

Classification runs automatically if you've enabled it in Settings > AI Features. You can also trigger it manually from the task detail panel.

Time Estimation

Danny estimates how long each task will take, using a t-shirt size system:

SizeTime range
XSUnder 5 minutes
S5 to 15 minutes
M15 to 45 minutes
L45 minutes to 2 hours
XLOver 2 hours

These estimates show up in the detail panel and are used by Danny when planning your day. If an estimate feels off, click it to change it.

Decomposition

Large or vague tasks can be broken into concrete subtasks. You can trigger decomposition two ways:

  • Chat — ask Danny to "break down" or "decompose" a task.
  • Detail panel — click the decompose button on any task.

Danny typically generates 3 to 7 subtasks. Each subtask gets its own time estimate and can be completed independently. For example, "Plan birthday party" might become:

  1. Pick a date and venue
  2. Create guest list
  3. Send invitations
  4. Order cake
  5. Buy decorations
  6. Plan activities

Productivity Insights

Danny can surface insights about your task patterns when you ask in chat:

  • Completion trends — how many tasks you're finishing per day and week.
  • Overdue patterns — which types of tasks tend to slip past their due dates.

You can access insights through the chat by asking Danny questions like "How productive was I this week?" or "What are my patterns?"

Natural Language Parsing

Danny's date and priority parsing works everywhere you type a task — the quick-add bar, chat, and brain dump review screen. Supported patterns include:

PatternExamples
Relative dates"tomorrow," "next week," "in 3 days"
Specific dates"June 15," "03/20," "March 20th"
Day names"Monday," "next Thursday"
Priority"P1," "P2," "P3," "P4"

AI Cost Awareness

Danny tracks AI usage so there are no surprises. You can see your current usage in Settings > Usage. All AI operations are logged and costs are tracked after the fact — Danny never asks for pre-approval before running a classification or estimate.

See Billing & Usage for details on token allowances and subscription plans.
