Brain Dump

Brain dump turns a stream of spoken thoughts into organized tasks. You talk, Danny listens, and then you review what it found before adding anything to your list.

The Three Phases

1. Record

Click the microphone icon in the bottom bar to start recording. Speak naturally for up to two minutes. You don't need to say "task one" or "next task" — just talk the way you would to a friend.

The recording overlay shows a timer and a waveform so you know it's capturing.

2. Process

After you stop recording, Danny processes the audio in two steps:

  • Transcription — converts your speech to text using AI.
  • Extraction — reads the transcript and pulls out actionable items.

This usually takes a few seconds. You'll see a loading indicator while it works.

3. Review

Danny presents a list of extracted tasks. Each task has:

  • A toggle switch — on by default. Turn it off to skip that task.
  • An editable title — click to refine the wording.
  • A preview of any detected due dates or priorities.

Click Add All to send every toggled-on task to your inbox. They'll go through AI classification automatically if you have it enabled.

Tips for Quality Results

  • Speak in short phrases. "I need to call the dentist, and I should pick up dog food" works better than long, meandering sentences.
  • Mention specifics. Dates, names, and places help Danny create clearer task titles.
  • Don't worry about perfection. The review screen lets you edit everything before it hits your inbox.

Transcription Settings

In Settings > Transcription, you can choose how your audio is processed:

OptionSpeedPrivacyToken cost
Cloud (default)FastAudio sent to cloudUses a small amount of your AI budget
On-deviceSlower (5–10 sec)Audio stays on your deviceNo token cost

Most users should stick with the default cloud option. Switch to on-device if you have privacy concerns about your audio.

Mobile Shortcut

On mobile, brain dump is available from the Brain Dump tab in the bottom navigation. The recording interface is the same — tap to start, tap to stop, then review your tasks.
